I do not advocate for commercially prepared dried pet food diet even if it is premium quality. From the pet food recall incident, we know that dogs today get sick from cancer, diheabetes, liver and kidney diseases at a young age and most died suffering from the onset of the illness. The pet food recall event has confirmed my thoughts that a pet diet does contribute and play a major role in their health condition today.
Today, we cannot ignore the fact that commercially prepared food is a cause of these recent pet health issues. Cooking for your pet seems like the best choice today with the pet food recall incident. If you are unable to provide for homemade dog food, here are my suggestions on selecting a commercially prepared dog food and doing the best you can with choices you can make in minimizing long term health risks.
1) Select from specialty shop like your local pet shop rather then buy from supermarket. This option is most convenient for busy a busy pet owner. However, much consideration must be placed into selecting premium dog foods to ensure quality food source goes into preparing the food. Read more...

What are food addictions? Is your health affected by them? If you have an unhealthy relationship with food, you may have a food addiction.
Instead of having a healthy relationship with food, the food-addicted person is obsessed with food. The food-addicted person may express this obsession by thinking about food constantly, being influenced in their food choices by their food cravings and the person may find it difficult to stop the food related behaviour that is harmful to their health including overeating.
Unhealthy Obsession
Food addictions affect your health when the cravings are for unhealthy foods. Unhealthy food cravings that can be dangerous for your health include salty and sugary foods. The health effects of food addictions, depending on the craved food, can include weight gain, hypertension, high blood pressure, diabetic conditions and other medical conditions.
Your emotional health and Food Addictions can affect one another. Many times people will use food as an emotional crutch when they are in a stressful situation or are unhappy.

There are thousands of harmful food additives that we are consuming every day. Many of these food additives have been show to be harmful to our health. The information in this article will help empower you to know what to look for.
In 1958 the government passed the Delaney Clause Food Additives Amendment which prohibited companies from adding known harmful chemicals to our food. But in spite of this, there are still dangerous chemicals that are still being added to our food and it is important to understand which chemicals these are and what the potential dangers are.
The only defense we have as consumers is that all packaged food is required to list all the ingredients on the label. We need to educate ourselves and become familiar with the harmful food additives and read every label of the food we purchase. The challenge however, is that food companies tend to make finding these suspicious ingredients somewhat tedious, hiding them in hard-to-find areas of the package and making the print extremely small so as to discourage their discovery. Consumers who purchase tender, delicious beef may not realize that the likelihood of the cattle being fed grass is quite high. In fact, the advantages of these natural foods when compared to mass-produced, chemical-laced varieties are quite great, as indicated by hundreds of years of research, believe it or not. Cattle fed with natural foods are a far healthier choice than those who consumed diets heavy with unnatural chemicals.
Despite the likelihood that the beef you purchase is grass fed, care must still be taken. Unless you go out of your way to be certain and do your research, you may be in for a surprise. The differences in cattle’s diets on consumers are not small ones. For starters, research in various nutrition journals indicates that grass fed beef is lower in fat, a major contributing factor to overall cardiac health, instance of heart attacks and early onset heart disease.
Those who are keeping track of their cholesterol can have the peace of mind, knowing that grass fed cattle will be better for them. But it isn’t only the heart that is affected by choosing one type of beef over another. Vitamins A and E and other nutrients may be higher in the grass fed beef. Read more...

Chances are that you’ve probably heard people talk about a raw food diet and how healthy it is for you, but did you ever wonder exactly what it is they’re talking about? Perhaps you envisioned raw oysters and beef on your dinner table. That doesn’t sound too appealing doesn’t?
In fact, a raw food diet is simply eating food in its natural unprocessed state. You probably already are on part of a raw food diet. If you snack on fruits and vegetables without cooking them, then you’ve eaten raw food.
Raw food, or unprocessed food is much better for you because the act of processing the food strips it of a lot of its vital nutrients. You’ve probably heard that cooking vegetables can leach out a lot of the vitamins and it can also destroy the important food enzymes as well. Packaged foods, that you find in the grocery store like potato flakes to make mashed potatoes and other foods that have been processed in some way to make an easy package meal not only have little nutritional value, but your body simply isn’t made to process these foods. If you care about your health and care about the planet then you should stop eating fish and seafood right now. There are very real health and ethical reasons to do so.
Why? Well, because the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico is a huge disaster that will have a long-term effect on the environment.
I won’t pretend to know much about how to stop the leak (I’m sure there are already ample armchair experts). However, even once it is stopped we will still have a significant clean-up job on our hands, and the pollution will remain for some time.
Obviously the US government will not allow fishing in the water that is being directly affected by the oil spill, but that does not mean that we are ‘off the hook’ so to speak. What happens under the surface of the water is not obvious to the casual observer, but you can count on the pollution spreading further under water than on the surface.
We have two serious issues to look at when we decide whether we are comfortable eating seafood: firstly what types of toxins could find their way into fish and shellfish, and secondly what would be the effects of overfishing in the non-oil-affected parts of the world to make up for the shortfall in the supply of fish? Pharmacists deal with the preparation and dispensing of prescription drugs. Many are also responsible for the research and development of new medications, some being capable of stopping major diseases. They are required to complete many years of schooling and training in order to obtain their level of responsibility. But there are a number of advantages to choosing a pharmacy career.
One big perk of this career field is the potential to travel around to new and exotic locations. Pharmacists are often invited to travel to new places in order to research the medical advantages of their plants or drugs. They also get to go to pharmaceutical meetings all over the globe to study about new drug breakthroughs and methods.
Another advantage of becoming a pharmacist is the job security. A career in pharmaceuticals is one of the world’s most sought after careers. In times of economic deflation and recession, a pharmacists knows that his or her position is safe and secure. Nearly a hundred percent of pharmacy school graduates find a job in their field in the first year after graduation. Read more...

In the last 25 years I have been asked thousands and thousands of fitness related questions. Invariably the most prominent question is, with their hand patting their tummy, how do I lose this? My answer is the same every-time. Eat less (portion size in each setting), eat more often with protein and carbs combined together, and eat higher quality less processed foods.
Eating higher quality food on the surface seems easy. No junk food, right. That’s not enough anymore we must have more information because the quality of the food we are eating is at an all time low. The big food companies have laced everything with chemicals and preservatives so it will last longer so they can make more money. God did not intend for all those altered substances to be in our body. Thus, we are seeing many new diseases that seem to have no cause. I will tell you what the cause is; it’s the artificial sweeteners, artificial fats, chemicals and preservatives that we are putting in our mouth. We are what we eat.
When you understand that your body is in a constant state of regeneration, then the term “you are what you eat” takes on a whole different meaning. Read more...
