NCLB Program Should Take Its Cue from Dallas Schools

Written by funker on August 24, 2010 – 3:18 pm

Failure to educate our country’s most disadvantaged students is the most glaring and abiding social and moral problem of the United States. For nearly 20 years, our nation has worked to improve our schools and student achievement levels. The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act was to be the answer to this dilemma by holding all schools accountable for student performance using high-stakes testing.

The error in thinking is the belief that the NCLB test ratings are fair and accurate. The system does not factor out the disadvantages and/or advantages of wealth and demographics, creating an inequity in the rating of schools. Low-income schools must provide programs, such as preschool, tutoring, remedial classes, and bilingual services, to their students, as well as the cost of more administration required by the state and federal grants that make up the largest percentage of their budget. Wealthier schools that primarily depend upon local funding (generally from property taxes) for their budget have few government constraints, few low-income students requiring special programs, and flexibility in how their budget is used. This means wealthier schools can provide more educational opportunities and enhancements (i.e. access to technology, fine arts and music, extracurricular activities, teacher professional training and improvements, and teacher administrative support) that impoverished schools cannot afford.

School Rankings ? Influencing From the Community

Written by funker on July 24, 2010 – 3:17 pm

School Rankings are considered by many different groups. Parents and students use the data provided in a report of School Rankings to determine which school the students should attend. Most parents don’t want to send their kid to a school that has a low-performance level. Looking at these reports can help them see which schools are doing well and which ones are not. Administrators of schools and their districts can use School Rankings in order to see how their school measures up to others around them, or to other schools that have the same demographics, characteristics, ethnic groups, or socioeconomic backgrounds. State boards of education look at School Rankings to compare how the schools throughout their states are doing, and then look at how they measure up against other states’ schools.

Other groups that may look at School Rankings are community organizations or business leaders. These groups may want to make a cash donation or award a grant to a particular school, and examining School Rankings is a good, easy way to determine which school needs the monetary support these groups can give.

Self Improvement Tips From A-Z

Written by funker on July 13, 2010 – 3:21 pm

Pain may sometimes be the reason why people change. Getting flunked grades make us realize that we need to study. Debts remind us of our inability to look for a source of income. Being humiliated gives us the ‘push’ to speak up and fight for ourselves to save our face from the next embarrassments.

It may be a bitter experience, a friend’s tragic story, a great movie, or an inspiring book that will help us get up and get just the right amount of motivation we need in order to improve ourselves.

With the countless negativities the world brings about, how do we keep motivated? Try on the tips I prepared from A to Z.

A – Achieve your dreams. Avoid negative people, things and places. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

B – Believe in your self, and in what you can do.

C -Consider things on every angle and aspect. Motivation comes from determination. To be able to understand life, you should feel the sun from both sides.

A lot of these parents find that their children are not acquiring the aid they need for a suitable education because of the flood of students in public schools. A few likewise concerned about the escalating violence and feel like bad habits are easily acquired in public schools.

While a few parents entertaining the thought of home schooling may think their children may get a better education in private schools, they also believe that private schools are far to costly. Taking for granted all of the downfalls of public and private schools, home schooling seems to be the logical choice to educate a child. Yet, electing to home school also has costs associated with it. It’s possibly even a lot more costly then you might imagine. Textbooks, lessons, the home school curriculum and additional material are costs you must think about. In addition think about the parent doing the home schooling isn’t earning any money because of the home schooling responsibilities, which makes home schooling still more costly.

Behavioral Change For Self Improvement – From A Catholic Perspective

Written by funker on June 24, 2010 – 3:22 pm

The Catholic Church promotes persistent longing for that which is considered moral and holy. This is apparently directed towards the objective of self-improvement. Now, Catholics are always called upon to aspire for what the Almighty in the very beginning planned for humans to turn into.

The world is without a doubt, beset with enticements to commit transgressions. Every type of wrongdoing perpetrated, is a departure from the original purpose of the Lord for human beings. This furnishes a greater justification for people to peruse the Holy Bible on a regular basis, in order that the Lord’s words will serve as their armor from Satan’s misleading ways.

Reciting the Lord’s words not only helps keep enticements at bay, it additionally makes known the manner in which God desires His people to conduct themselves. The different characters in the Holy Scripture plainly show the people in whose footsteps one must follow due to their steadfastness to God’s will.

In addition, the Holy Scripture plus the Catholic Church stress that the decisive role model is Jesus Christ since every single one of His words and deeds was wholly rooted in what God desired. Therefore, any endeavor towards self-improvement and behavioral change must draw its motivation from Jesus Christ.

Great Quotes From Great People on Self Improvement

Written by funker on June 16, 2010 – 3:23 pm

Self improvement is one of the most ignored journeys in our modern society. Start your journey like a child who is born into this world to learn. We can have intense desire for changing or improving who we are, but if we don’t begin the journey with one step, as Confucius once said and then break it down into smaller plans, the journey might begin to seem impossible.

Any time you sincerely want to make a change, the first thing you must do is to raise your standards. Write down all the things you would no longer accept in your life, all the things you would no longer tolerate, and all the things that you aspire to become.

Go ahead and take the actions and steps necessary to make your goal of self-improvement in some area of your life into a reality. A good example of this is how athletes will compare their current performance to their own previous performances with self-improvement being the number one goal.

Self Improvement Should Start From You

Written by funker on May 29, 2010 – 3:20 pm

Sometimes, when all our doubts, fears and insecurities wrap ourselves up, we always come up with the idea of “I wish I was somebody else.” More often than not, we think and believe that someone or rather, most people are better than us.- when in reality, the fact is, most people are more scared than us.

You spot a totally eye-catching girl sitting by herself at a party, casually sipping on a glass of Chardonnay. You think to yourself, “She looks so perfectly calm and confident.” But if you could read through her transparent mind, you would see a bunch of clouds of thoughts and you might just be amazed that she’s thinking “Are people talking about why I am seated here alone? Why don’t guys find me attractive? “I don’t like my ankles, they look too skinny”, “I wish I was as intelligent as my best friend.”

October 2009 Sporting Clays Shooting Tip Released : From The Paragon School Of Sporting

Written by funker on May 22, 2010 – 3:17 pm

2 CRITICAL COMPONENTS TO A SUCCESSFUL TRAINING SESSION October 2009 Shooting Tip

It’s not uncommon to load up our gear, head to the range, stand in the first box and ask ourselves, “What do I want to work on today?” Consider a more productive approach.

To get us on the same page – 2 definitions: “Practice” is more about reinforcing and strengthening a skill already learned.  “Training” is all about learning and building an undeveloped skill.

1. Decide beforehand, specifically what technique, strategy, scoring skill or specific target presentation you want to work on. What presentation, distance and speed? Reading target lines more accurately — then holding those lines during the swing. Key to intercepting every target punctually – devote a session to marking more accurate, more advantageous “hold points.” How does our “gun mount” look? Do we own the best shooting method for the A bird? XXXXXX or X0X00X? The B bird? And the list goes on. No doubt a less formal approach to a training session may lead to some broken birds. But I’m wondering what our shooter would say at the end of the day if asked, “What did you learn today?”
