Most of us are partially contented with our lives the way they are, but it’s hard to think of anything else when there are so many other issues to be considered.

Still we should aspire for something better.

We are all attacked by problems. But it should not bother us or even slow us down to becoming all we should be. Our dreams as children should continue to stay with us, short-lived though they may be or as long as we could keep hold to the dream. The old saying that you can not teach an old dog new tricks does not apply.

#1 What is it that I really want?

This is the age-old question. All of us have so many things we want to do with our lives yet so little time to even get through the day. Finding one thing that you are especially good at will help make that first small step to improving yourself. Conscientiousness is how you will know it is worthwhile.

#2 Does it make sense to really change?

The current generation has taken another approach in defining “self”, at least that is what the youth are saying. If you are lucky enough to have teenage grandchildren or nieces or nephews, you will quickly find there are worse things they could have than acne or maybe loose morals. So how does that mesh with your lifestyle?

History has taught us one thing… it is the life that we have already experienced. If you used to party in the Seventies where dancing was a big part of the party scene at that time, watch the younger generation clap their hands after showing them how to “really” dance rather than risk breaking bones while break dancing.

#3 Is there a bright side to all of this?

With volumes of things happening around us there doesn’t seem to be any room to even think about the proverbial light at the tunnel’s end. We can look at it as being something positive without undertaking a detailed investigation. So if the light turns out to be a train at the end of the tunnel, try taking it for a ride and seeing what’s happening in this world!

#4 Am I totally comfortable with everything that I’m doing?

There are always two ways, the easy way or the right way, when it comes to how you decide what goes with your pants, dress, tie, purse, or whatever. You don’t need to be a genius to make yourself unique. It is not necessary nor desireable for us all be the same in everything we do. Variety brings about many exciting and interesting questions to be experimented with.

#5 Have I done everything I could for myself?

Well, have you, or are there more things you want to do? Being discontented in all aspects of your life can be dangerous in big doses, but in smaller doses you’ll be able to identify and do things you may never imagined doing.

#6 Does where I am today make me happy?

This is not a fair question so let’s let it be an answer. If you love being a loving mother, father or grandparent to the kids, then ratchet it up a notch! The children will remember and love you eternally. The same hold true with everyday life.

#7 Do I appeal to members of the opposite sex?

There is no easy answer to this. However, if you get into shape, change the way you dress, change the way you wear your hair, or especially change your attitude towards people, you should know it will always be to your benefit in the way the opposite sex perceives you.

#8 How much better can I be?

Truly, in this case one can not have too much or too little, but the focus should be on how badly it is really needed. Unquestionably, every one would like to have tons of money, but the real question is how much would you be willing to work for it?

#9 What things motivate me?

Do you know what motivates you? This is an answer you will have to find for yourself. Since there are a number of things that can make us all happy, the hardest part is to choose just one. The very best way is to simply try it piece by piece.

#10 What, in actuality, makes you tick?

OK, really, what makes you tick? We all can be just pretty much anything we always wanted to be, but to think that reaching something we want is very difficult is already giving up before the journey is even started. We should remember that self-improvement is not only about the philosophical or physical change you need to undergo, but it is also about something that you truly want.

At 256 lbs, I saw my naturopath for the first time. We had a long discussion about food, my weight, my depression, and how I wanted to tackle all of it. The following year after I had lost 136 pounds and visited her again for final blood work, she told me that on the first day we met she made a note in my file. It said: “Patient views food as poison.”

She had hit it right on. I did. And I am not alone. I may have been on the extreme end of the thought process, but the fear of food was real. In my entire life, I had never eaten one ounce of food without guilt. Even as a child, if I wanted a second apple I felt as though I was proving to all that saw what a pig I really was.

That is why a simple low fat raw food diet worked for me. It was minimal and I could enjoy as much as I wanted without a drop of guilt. I thought I could bring that to the obese community as a miraculous cure for obesity. I was wrong.

For each person I helped achieve great weight loss, there were another twenty who came and went. People would sign up, do the all raw diet for their first month or two and have huge weight loss, but then the reality of being on a restrictive diet would hit and they would flee forgetting all about their achievements. Their major complaint: “I just want to eat like a normal person.”

What did they flee to? Not another healthy sound diet. They returned to the diet/binge cycle – the only method they knew for day to day eating.

For those of us who have grown up with obesity or entered the dieting world early, we have no idea what “normal” eating is. All we know is how to diet or not diet, and the not diet has nothing to do with eating right. We have proven to ourselves over and over again, that we have no control over the food we eat except when on a structured diet, and then it is only until we can’t do it anymore.

I have developed a complete new system for my clients who cannot do the all raw program. It is ten times scarier for them than asking them to live on raw fruits and vegetables. Why? Because I make them eat.

One of the first things that becomes very clear and they actually all voice is, “I don’t know how to eat like a regular person.” When I tell them I want them to eat 1800 calories their first two weeks to find out what their true maintenance diet will look like, their eyes pop, their voices quake, and they stammer: “1800 calories, I can’t do that I will gain weight.” It takes me a while to convince them otherwise.

The first week is always full of panic. Their menus are peppered with all sorts of ideas on eating they have picked up from dieting their whole lives. A lot of it is food they don’t even like and would never eat outside a diet. When I tell them to eat more, to try something new they balk. “No, no, I can’t do it. I will lose control.” In truth, that is exactly what I want them to do.

It is only after examining what out of control is, that we can work together to bring things back to the middle and find a satisfying solution that will allow them to take control of their eating.

We are all different. Each of us has different likes and dislikes, our bodies respond to different types of food. Some people can tolerate higher fat, some people can’t. Some people can have salt in their diet without it affecting them, others like me, have to be cautious. Some people need fewer, larger meals to feel sated, others need to graze through the day. Understanding who you are as an eater becomes paramount in defining a diet that will bring weight loss and then let you adjust it for life-time maintenance.

Accepting that there is no one cookie-cutter diet out there that will work for everyone, is vital in developing an eating plan. Throwing out all preconceived ideas of what a diet is, is the only way to move out of the diet/binge cycle.

That fear of eating that has been hammered into us all these years has to be tackled. The only way to do that is to eat. Sounds simple enough, but in my experience I have found it is harder to get people to eat then it is to get them to diet.

Why? Because all we know is deprivation or guilt.

When I start a new client on this program, their first week proves how true the above statement is. They eat tentatively. The foods tend to come from their dieting history, the amounts minimal.

I pick out these dieting foods and ask why they chose to eat them. Their answer is surprising. Not only was the food not satisfying, but oftentimes they ate food they didn’t like because that is what their dieting brain told them was the only acceptable choice. Now, there are diets out there on the market that promote lots of eating choices. They work for some, but the problem is they are small amounts for the calories, and most obese men and women need bigger servings, and when they eat higher fat, sugar, or salted foods, cravings dictate that one serving is never enough. That creates more fear of food, and that fear limits viable choices in their idea of what they can and cannot eat for weight loss.

I make it clear, I do not want to see those diet foods in their menu again. Panic ensues.

It is a process, a hand holding to calm their nerves and gain their trust that it is okay to eat food as long as they understand that each choice they make needs to be seen as a whole, and it needs to work with them as a person. Once they see that they really can eat 1800 calories a day without gaining weight they are amazed. Amazed that they are now eating foods they saw as detrimental to their dieting cause, and eating those foods in amounts they find satisfying.

No, not every food they love can be eaten, but by examining what foods keep them stated, and what foods cause them to want more, their menu of choices grows and the idea that this type of diet can be done not just for short term loss, but for life becomes empowering.

It is this fear of food, this fear of not being able to stick to a diet, this fear that food controls us and not the other way around that keeps the obese obese.

Food is nutrition. Our bodies need it, even our brain needs it to stay balanced and keep us in a good place. What the obese have to come to terms with is that they are a unique individual, and although their obesity issues are common within the obese community, their needs to feel satisfied are quite different.

Food is neither enemy nor lover. It needs to become a partner in the obese person’s quest for health and well-being.

If you want to beat your obesity, then you must be willing to work through your fear of eating outside of a diet. You must be able to look at food realistically and take time to explore what is right for you before embarking on your next diet.

Cats are for lonely, old ladies in rockers.I think not. That claim can only be contested by a cat lover like me. My cat is named Bella. Well, she is not a replacement for a child but is a good alternative until the daughter or son comes along. Cats are very caring and sweet. Who wouldnt want one? They make great pets for they keep the mice at bay. Thanks to Bella, my house is free of rodent-infestation. The cats presence is helpful in our home in another way. It helps me communicate with my husband without words. How? With a funny cat t-shirt, of course!

Kitty and cat care has the most delightful and funny cat t-shirts. There are many designs to choose from, depending on your attitude for the day. I started wearing the shirt called Cat Attitude Beach Bum T-Shirt around the house while working out in the treadmill. The shirt features different expressions of cat faces when they are sad, happy, stressed out and the like. My husband passed by me and did a double take, reading my shirt. A few moments later a smile creased his face. He said, You are wearing the contest attitude. That made me smile too. Now, whenever I wear that comfortable and funny cat t-shirt, he would try to match my face to the ones printed on my shirt. Luckily, my face always matches the happy cat face.

When my husband and I are fighting and I am giving him the silent treatment, I would wear the Meow-Dont you understand? t-shirt or the World revolves around me t-shirt. I still get the message across without throwing a hissy fit or strong, harsh words. I will just let the funny cat t-shirts do the work for me. When Im in the mood for shopping, I wear the I love to shop shirt and bat my eyelashes at him. He usually gets a resigned look in his face when I ask him to go shopping with me. But with the funny cat t shirt, he just gives me a go signal, minus the exasperation.

When I am in the mood for alone-time because the stress of work reaches its toll, I will don the Cats Worshiped Funny Cat t- shirt and he will run me a relaxing bath. After the said bath, he would take out my Do Not Disturb sweatshirt and lay it next to a steaming mug of green tea. There are even corresponding shirts for times when I do not want to do housework or get up in the morning! The wide selection is the best around. It only means that Kitty and Cat Care has its customers in mind when crafting their t-shirts and its designs. Oh, what is my favourite style? It is the Friends Forever-Dog/Cat t0-shirt. My husband and I used to fight like cats and dogs. Back in college, it was near impossible for us to be friends. We keep on butting heads. But now, we are husband and wife, not only friends.

The funny cat t-shirts are available in different cuts and styles. The Adult T-Shirt is 100% pre-shrunk cotton with a 5.6 oz with shoulder-to-shoulder tape with a seamless collar, and double needle construction throughout. The Adult Sweatshirt is premium-weight, high quality garment made of 50% cotton and 50% polyester. The Adult Long Sleeve T-Shirt is 100% pre-shrunk cotton, 5.6 oz with shoulder-to-shoulder tape with a seamless collar, and double needle construction throughout. The Womans T-Shirt Dress is 100% pre-shrunk heavyweight cotton, 5.6oz, bound neck, 37 long, and double needle sleeve and bottom hem. Lastly, the Womans Scoop Neck T-Shirt is 5.6 oz. heavyweight 100% cotton garment, pre-shrunk to keep its good looks. This female shirt has a bound neck, double-needle sleeves and a bottom hem.

The funny cat t shirts are not only amusing, but they are uber comfortable. They can be used when working out, picking up the grocery or simply lounging around. Go ahead and get one! You do not have to try so hard in cracking jokes. All you have to do is point to your shirt and the funny cat t shirts will do it for you.

There have been many instances over the past 20 years or so where people have been so unhappy about the schools that they have decided to step up and do something about it. In response to this discontent, charter schools have been formed. For many New York City Schools families, charters appear to be the way to go.

Virtually anyone concerned with the state of New York City Schools can open a charter school. Parents, teachers, principals (whether they are from public New York City Schools or private ones), community leaders, philanthropists and nonprofit organizations are all examples of the types of folks who open charter schools in response to a perceived lack in quality public education.

But what is a charter school, anyway? Most people have heard about them, but are unclear or confused as to what they are, exactly. Charter schools are created by a contract (or “charter”) with the New York City Schools system. They are held to the same standards as more traditional public schools, but operate with a greater autonomy than regular schools within the system. The purpose of the charter school is to offer new resources, personnel and ideas to education, as well as to give the families of New York City Public Schools a greater choice.

Charter schools are under the umbrella of the New York City Schools district, and are held directly accountable for meeting specific student performance goals. If the charter school fails to meet these criteria, their charter can be revoked or not renewed. In return for these higher standards, these schools are exempt from New York City Schools regulations such as curriculum development, staffing, and budget.

There are 6 reasons why numbering charter schools among the options for families with children attending New York City Schools is a good idea. Charter schools have unique educational goals that are innovative and desirable:

- Charter schools within the districts of New York City Schools are responsible for increasing the learning opportunities and achievement of all students, most especially high-risk students – ones in danger of dropping out or who have a low reading ability, for example.

- These special New York City Schools also encourage the use of different and innovative teaching methods. Within the confines of the traditional public school classroom, teachers have fewer options with how they go about their jobs. Simple issues such as class size or available resources can considerably tie their hands.

- Charter schools obviously provide a greater amount of choice for parents and students of New York City Schools.

- Also, charter schools can provide motivated educators with the means to pursue their beliefs and ideas.

New York City Schools strive to offer its students the best possible education, and the choice of attending a charter school is one way to do so. Charter schools can offer their children a wider variety of opportunities.

Recently, a potential client told me that cost would be a factor in his Web-site project. I paused for a minute, trying to remember a project that didn’t involve budget concerns.

I couldn’t think of any.

Every day, I talk to clients about the opportunities and challenges of building Web sites. So every day, I talk about budgets and look for resourceful solutions.

And here’s my best suggestion: focus on leveraging existing tools for maximum value and functionality.

Of course, many Web-site design and development firms build great, custom applications and features. Take Orbit’s Mighty-Site® for example: several hundred clients use this content-management tool, which can be tailored for any design or feature.

But in many cases, existing tools provide fantastic solutions that cost far less than custom-made programs. By integrating these features into your site, you can avoid the added cost and headache of building an application from the ground up.

Below, we have collected a short list of such top-notch options. These aren’t the only tools that do what they do, but we think they’re the best options out there-and each provides a far better approach than building a feature from scratch.

I now present the Third-Party-Tool Hall of Fame:

Google Maps: Maps and Driving Directions

Familiar to users and easy to integrate into any Web site, Google Maps lets you mark your location with your actual logo. And it can update all your locations when an Excel spreadsheet is uploaded. This works well for real-estate companies or anyone with more than one location.

The downside: your map will display a Google logo in the bottom-right corner, and even if it didn’t, it would still look like a Google map.

Regardless, if you want online visitors to know where you are, this is the best way to tell them.

Flickr: Photo Galleries

This gem of a tool lets you embed galleries into your site transparently (i.e., without displaying the Flickr name).

Images are easy to view: click on a thumbnail to scroll through full-size pictures without any pop-up windows. Best of all, Flickr resizes your photos for you.

For businesses that want to avoid using Photoshop to resize, save, name, and organize multiple versions of each image, this is a great way to make a gallery.

Word Press: Blogs

Search engines and individuals associate a Web site’s relevance with how often it is updated, and a blog provides a great forum for making continuous additions to your site.

WordPress provides a free, easy-to-use platform that installs directly to your server, allowing you complete control over publishing & managing your blog.

So, we come to the classic question in the software world: “Build or Buy?”

Consider your options carefully: What will you gain by building a feature from scratch? Will the result justify your investment?

If a great tool already exists, be wary of any Web-design company that recommends building an application from scratch. Savvy firms stay abreast of the industry’s latest developments and recommend what’s best for you.
